Information Note: Winterising the pools / Outdoor pools

1. Clean all the leaves and debris from the pool surface
2. Allow pool to drain to about 150mm below the skimmers.
3. Ensure the skimmer pipework is thoroughly drained of water.
4. Add a strong algicide to the water.
5. Raise chlorine levels to about 8-10mg/l
6. Ensure pH is about 7.4
7. Float some buoyant materials on the pool surface (timber, footballs, empty chemical containers etc.). This should absorb ice pressure should any be formed.
8. Allow chlorine levels to drop to 0.5mg/l and maintain that level throughout the winter.
9. Remove pool ladders, equipment, skimmer weirs and baskets.
10. Fit the pool cover as tightly as possible. If the pool cover is not substantial enough to prevent access consideration should be given to replacing it with a worthwhile model.
11. Backwash the pool filters and ensure the filters are clean.
12. Close all valves below the water line and open all those above the water line.
13. Store pool chemicals in a cool dry dark well ventilated room that is secure. ensure that the chemical labelling on the outside of the room complies with the chemicals on the inside.
